Light Tactical Transport Vehicle production ramped up for Belgium

LTTV production for Belgium has been accelerated. (Jankel)

Light Tactical Transport Vehicle (LTTV) production for Belgium has been accelerated, Jankel announced in a press release on 31 August. This follows a period of low-rate production because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company said that 25 LTTVs entered production in August, to be further increased in September, with delivery of 199 vehicles to be completed in 2023.

Belgium's Council of Ministers approved the purchase of 199 armoured vehicles in June 2017 for EUR63.3 million (USD63.2 million), and Jankel announced in March 2018 that the Belgian Ministry of Defence (MoD) had awarded it the contract for 199 LTTVs, which the ministry said at the time includes several years of technical support.

Jankel unveiled the LTTV at the 2019 Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition. The vehicle has removable mission modules, enabling it to be rapidly reroled. It has a payload of more than three tonne, depending on the version, and there are three core variants: troop transport/special forces, ambulance, and logistics. The Belgian contract includes the delivery of 167 troop transport/special forces modules, eight ambulance body modules, and 24 logistics modules.

The LTTV's user-configurable, fully integrated suite of military subsystems include a removable ballistic protection kit, a roll-over protection system, weapon mounts, and communications fit.

In addition to modules and ballistic protection kits, 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm machine guns and 40 mm smoke grenade launcher systems are being procured, according to the Belgian MoD.
