Evolve Dynamics, a United Kingdom-based unmanned aircraft system (UAS) manufacturer, has progressed with new developments to its Sky Mantis 2 UAS.

Speaking to Janes on 25 July at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024 , Mike Dewhirst, the CEO of Evolve Dynamics, revealed that Sky Mantis has been conducting intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) operations in Ukraine since 2022.

The present iteration of the Sky Mantis platform or Sky Mantis 2 is fully NATO STANAG (Standardization Agreement) compliant and features more than 100 advancements compared with the initial version that was released to market in 2017. The lessons learned and feedback from the operators during its deployment in Ukraine have also led to substantial advancement of the UAS, Dewhirst added.

The Sky Mantis 2 is an electrically powered quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) featuring a central fuselage structure accommodating avionics, four supporting legs for landing, global positioning antennas, and a battery. The fuselage also features an orb-shaped stabilised gimbal, which further accommodates a dual-sensor payload (electro-optic/infrared). The UAV has four rotor arms each equipped with a brushless direct current (BLDC) electric motor driving a two-blade rotor.
