VPK presented two variants of the new Atlet (Athlete) 4×4 protected multirole vehicle at the Army 2019 defence exhibition being held in Kubinka close to Moscow on 25–30 June. The AMN-2 is the multirole variant intended for general purpose missions and was shown on the static display at Park Patriot. The second variant, known as the ASN-2, is intended for special purpose missions and was only shown at the dynamic display at Alabino. The only external difference noted between the AMN-2 and the ASN-2 so far is that the latter is provided with smoke grenade launchers.

The AMN-2 features improvements to crew survivability, with particular effort made to provide the vehicle with protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). To this end, the vehicle has a V-shaped hull, and all seats are fixed to the vehicle sides or a frame rather than the floor, and all crew members are provided with footrests to ensure no contact with the ground. These measures provide the driver and seven dismounts of the AMN-2 with mine protection to OTT level 2.
