XR Training has completed fielding 81 Amphibious Combat Vehicle Driver Training System (ACV-DTS) simulators for the US Marine Corps (USMC), the company announced in a press release in November 2024.

The production contract for the simulators was awarded in April 2024 under an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) to a consortium led by XR Training, which also includes Talon Simulations, Enludio, and Theory Studios.

The Wave Warrior ACV-DTS was developed in response to a USMC requirement for a portable desktop simulator that can be used onboard ships as well as in shore establishment, Neil Levin, XR Training CEO, told Janes at the time of the contract award. In addition to desktop mode, it can also be integrated with a seat mounted on a two-degree of freedom (2DoF) motion platform. For travel, it can be transported in two Pelican cases.

The simulator consists of a steering wheel, pedals, gear and propulsion mode change levers, vehicle switches and controls, and a Vive HTC Elite headset operating in virtual reality (VR) mode with hand tracking. The headset has a 1920×1920 per-eye resolution, six DoF inside-out tracking using four cameras, a field of view of 110°, a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and embedded audio.

Subsequent to the contract award a number of components in the prototype were replaced with “more reliable” units, Levin told Janes on 19 December. He added that because the simulators are assembled on site, the process was improved to make it more manageable, and the frame was more strongly built. The software was also improved.
