Saab has teamed with Czech armoured vehicle manufacturer SVOS for a new RBS-70NG-based Manoeuvre-Short Range Air Defence (M-SHORAD) system.

Unveiled on 3 March, the new M-SHORAD system architecture includes a mobile fire unit (MFU) – an RBS-70NG ground-based air defence (GBAD) triple launcher integrated with an advanced high-resolution thermal imaging day/night sight mounted on a Czech SVOS MARS (Multi-role Armored System) S-330 variant 4x4 platform – a mobile Saab Giraffe 1Γ— lightweight multimission surveillance radar with an integrated drone tracker, and a SAAB command-and-control system.

The MARS S-330 vehicle was delivered to Sweden in the second half of 2021 for RBS-70NG integration and testing, following which it underwent field functional testing and live-fire testing with RBS-70NG interceptors.

SVOS director Jaroslav Černý told Janes that with the RBS-70NG launcher successfully integrated and tested on the S-330 platform, further live-fire demonstrations will be conducted in the short term. The MARS vehicle will be formally unveiled at the Eurosatory defence exhibition in Paris in June.
