The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will be equipped with 22 new combat unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) from United24, a Ukrainian government entity.
United24 will send 20 PD15 Foxy one-way UGVs and two Moroz reconnaissance-strike platforms to the AFU as part of its latest round of donations to the army, the agency announced on 22 August.
United24 is a Ukrainian governmental agency that raises funding to support Ukraine. In March the agency announced that it was procuring hundreds of UGVs for the army. Details regarding the specific platforms were not disclosed.
PD15 Foxy is one of the attack UGVs featured on United24's website. It describes the system as a “self-destructive” UGV designed to eliminate equipment, personnel, shelters, and dugouts. The platform can also operate in a stationary state, where it consumes little energy, enabling it to be used as a communications relay or for ambush operations.
Moroz, on the other hand, is designed for both reconnaissance and attack missions. The system, designed by Brave1 developers, features an electro-optical camera, thermal imager, and rangefinder. A 7.62 mm machine gun can also be equipped on the platform, Mykhailo Fedorov deputy prime minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology Development previously noted. United24 claims that it can strike targets from distances of up to 2 km.
Separately, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers announced on 20 August that it has earmarked UAH24 billion (USD577 million) to purchase “drones” for the Ukrainian security and defence forces, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, said in a government meeting.
