EDGE – a UAE-based advanced technology group, which develops capabilities for defence – unveiled its new unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) Scorpio-B on 21 February at the 2022 Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference (UMEX) in Abu Dhabi.

According to EDGE, Scorpio-B “can be equipped with remote weapon systems, twin 40 mm grenade launchers, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors with the possibility to mount various payloads of up to 200 kg. In addition to being valuable for ISR operations, Scorpio-B can be fitted for tactical overwatch, counter terrorism, CBRN [chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear] detection, communication relay, and any other types of dangerous missions”.

Specifications include a 30° slope gradient, 40 km/h speed, track propulsion, and an all-in-one command-and-control station that enables one or two operators to remotely operate the UGV systems and equipment up to 5 km away, the group stated.

Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments Company (ADASI), part of the Platforms & Systems group at EDGE, developed the artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted UGV and incorporated its mission planning and autopilot system, EDGE announced.
