An undisclosed customer placed an order with Embraer for six A-29 Super Tucanos, the company disclosed on 30 December.

Deliveries of the aircraft are to begin in 2026, said the company.

Additional details were not immediately available, and Embraer declined to answer further questions about the order.

The Super Tucano has earned several new customers of late. Portugal became the launch customer for the A-29N, a version configured with NATO-standard hardware, with an order for 12 earlier in December. The Uruguayan Air Force signed for six A-29s in August, and Paraguay purchased six more in July.

Embraer forecasts a market for up to 490 A-29s over the next 20 years, Embraer Defense and Security president and CEO Bosco da Costa Junior told Janes in April. Over 250 of the type have been delivered since its unveiling in 2003.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, 2024 was the Brazilian defence industry's best year for exports in a decade.

Powered by a Pratt & Whitney 969 kW (1,300 shp) PT6A-68A turboprop, the Super Tucano can carry a 1,550 kg (3,417 lb) payload, comes equipped with two FN Herstal M3W 12.7 mm machine guns, and boasts a flight endurance of up to seven hours.

The twin-seat aircraft is designed for counter-insurgency and light attack missions and can be employed in a training role.

The order comes days after another undisclosed customer signed for two C-390 Millennium transport aircraft.
