L3Harris took the opportunity at the 2019 Defence and Security Equipment International exhibition (DSEI 2019) to unveil its latest T4 robotic system, which fits within the medium-sized platform category and appears to be a scaled-down version of the T7 platform, albeit with a different running gear configuration.
The T4 weighs 100 kg including its manipulator arm, batteries, and narrow tracks with the chassis and arm weighing approximately 65 kg and 35 kg, respectively.
The new T4 robotic system has a compact footprint that enables it to manoeuvre better in confined spaces compared with the company’s larger T7 platform. (L3Harris)
The T4 can operate between four and six hours on its four hot-swappable BB-2590 lithium ion batteries, depending on the mission, and travel at speeds of up to 8 km/h.
An ingress protection rating of IP-66 is afforded to the unit as well as the ability to ford to depths of 30.5 cm. When fitted with narrow tracks, its pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera lowered, and no disruptors, the dimensions are as follows: a length of 92 cm, a width of 44.5 cm, and a height of 58 cm. The T4 can fit into the back of a vehicle and does not require special transportation.
A non-line-of-sight (NLOS) range of between 200 and 300 m can be achieved with the use of Silvus MIMO radios.
A five degrees of freedom (DoF) manipulator arm is mounted on the platform providing a reach of 2 m. It can lift 50 kg loads, although this is reduced to 20 kg when the arm is fully extended.
