Sako presented its new TRG 62 A1 ELR (extreme long-range) rifle at the Eurosatory 2024 defence exhibition held in Paris from 17 to 21 June.
Chambered for a 9.5×77 mm cartridge (based on the .375 CheyTac), the TRG 62 A1 is an evolution of the TRG 42 rifle, and incorporates elements of the TRG M10 multicalibre rifle as well. It is intended to be able to engage targets at 2,000 m and beyond. Developed to meet the perceived needs of the Finnish military, the rifle is currently being evaluated by an undisclosed European military, said a spokesperson for the Finnish gunmaker.
The bolt-action rifle weighs approximately 7 kg and is fitted with a 762 mm long barrel, though shorter lengths are available upon request. The TRG 62 A1 is fitted to a modified TRG M10 chassis, which has been strengthened and is fitted with a modified cheek piece on the stock. The side-folding butt features an adjustable buttpad. As standard, the rifle comes equipped with a 305 mm long M-LOK handguard, though two longer lengths are available as options.
The main Nato Accessory Rail is 210 mm long and features 8.7 mrad of built-in cant. A 13.09 mrad rail is also available as an option. The rifle is fed from a seven round, double column, detachable box magazine. At Eurosatory, the rifle was displayed fitted with an Ase Utra SL11 suppressor. Sako will also produce a family of 9.5×77 mm cartridges, including solid match and armour-piercing natures. A future TRG 62 A1 chambered in .408 CheyTac is also in the works.
