Rheinmetall and Honeywell have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work together on technology projects, according to a Rheinmetall statement on 30 September.
The agreement is a result of increased engagement from European countries as they increase defence spending in response to the conflict in Ukraine, Matthew Milas, president of Defense and Space for Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, told Janes on 2 October. The way Honeywell goes to market is to provide support to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). As a large OEM that is supporting a lot of the activities in Ukraine, Rheinmetall provides new opportunities for Honeywell, he said.
Discussions determined that Honeywell's latest technology developments would be a good fit for projects in Ukraine as well as with Rheinmetall's efforts elsewhere in Europe, Milas said. Following talks, technology exchanges, and leadership engagements, Honeywell decided that Rheinmetall would be a good partner to work with on its land technologies, such as the tactical advanced land inertial navigator (TALIN) that is already integrated with US Army vehicles and the new Honeywell 360 Display driver vision system, which provides 360° situational awareness for air, land, and maritime vehicles. The goal is to ensure that Honeywell's technology development efforts “are aligned well from a strategic intent to help support more of that European defence growth”, he said.
