Privately held Indonesian shipyard PT Palindo Marine (Palindo) has launched a 105 m hydrographic survey vessel on order for the Indonesian Navy.
The vessel was launched on 24 September at Palindo's facility, which is located on Batam Island, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (MoD) disclosed the same day.
It was built under a deal signed between the MoD and German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen, with the shipbuilding part of the contract being executed by Palindo as part of a technology transfer programme, the ministry added.
The contract was signed under the Indonesian Navy's hydro-oceanographic support ship requirement.
First steel-cutting for the vessel took place on 15 September 2023 while keel-laying was carried out on 14 December 2023, the MoD added.
The vessel displaces about 3,400 tonnes and can accommodate a helicopter with a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of up to 12 tonnes on its flight deck.
It has a maximum speed of about 16 kt with an endurance of 60 days when accommodating a crew of 90 personnel on board.
The vessel, which has been constructed out of high-tensile steel, has been designed to accommodate a 20 mm gun as its primary weapon and several 12.7 mm machine guns for point defence.
When completed, the MoD plans to equip the vessel with sensors that can decipher features underwater at depths of up to 11 km, the ministry said.
Now that the vessel has been launched, it will be transported to Abeking & Rasmussen's facilities in Germany where it will be completed and fitted out with the necessary hydrographic systems, the ministry added.
