An undisclosed customer has ordered two Embraer C-390 Millennium transports, the company announced on 27 December.

“The aircraft will be specially configured to meet customers' requirements,” Embraer said in the announcement, specifying transport and medevac roles for the aircraft.

Although Embraer has long been a global aerospace powerhouse, the C-390 has been taken up by countries that have not traditionally operated its products. Aside from the Brazilian Air Force, the C-390's main operator, the type has found customers in Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, South Korea, and Sweden.

In addition, Janes has reported that Embraer has showcased the C-390 for Ireland, Morocco, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as NATO's Heavy Airlift Wing. Argentina, Chile, and Colombia have signed letters of intent (LOIs) to purchase the type but not placed formal orders yet. Embraer has additionally signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with companies in India in anticipation of a contest for a medium airlifter.

Embraer declined to elaborate on the announcement, which did not include a contract value, delivery dates, or configuration details.

According to Embraer, the twin-IAE V2500-powered tanker-transport can carry up to 26 tonne (57,320 lb) of cargo over a 1,080 n mile range, which can be extended with aerial refuelling. The C-390 cruises at up to 470 kt (870 km/h).
