Korea Aerospace Industries’ (KAI’s) dedicated services company Korea Aviation Engineering & Maintenance Service (KAEMS), has signed an agreement with Airbus Defence and Space to partner on maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activity in the country.
KAI said the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on 10 May and will feature co-operation on the provision of technical support for Airbus C212 Aviocar transport aircraft and CN235 tactical transport aircraft. The Korea Coast Guard operates both types of aircraft, while the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) has operated the CN235 since the early 1990s.
KAI said that envisaged co-operation between the two companies includes technical support to enable KAEMS to obtain maintenance capability for the two aircraft types. It added, “With [the] introduction of systematic maintenance technology, maintenance quality will be improved, and it will also help to support and maintain aircraft currently in operation in [South] Korea.”
The partnership will also offer upgrade services for the RoKAF’s CN235 aircraft and will pursue regional MRO opportunities across the Asia Pacific.
