Defence contractor Moog has told Janes it believes its Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (RIwP) air-defence turret brings something unique to the ongoing search for UK ground-based air defence (GBAD) and should at least be included in any competition for future British Army systems.

Speaking to Janes at the Defence Vehicle Demonstration (DVD2024) exhibition, held on 18 and 19 September at Millbrook in the United Kingdom, Richard Allen-Miles, EMEA capture lead for Moog, gave details on the company's offering for elements of the UK's GBAD Programme.

Combined offer

Outlined in the Defence Command Paper Refresh 2023 (DCP23), Land GBAD calls for the bolstering of the UK's air-defence capabilities over the next 10 years. Part of these requirements include a mounted counter-small aerial target (C-SAT) capability (largely overlapping what is commonly referred to as counter-unmanned aircraft system [C-UAS]). The requirements also include a mounted short-range air defence (SHORAD) to replace Stormer HVM (high velocity missile) as it nears its out-of-service date of 2026, with Allen-Miles telling Janes that they understand a new capability will be brought in around 2028.
