Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) has been contracted by the Italian Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Directorate of Land Armaments (Direzione Armamenti Terrestri: DAT) to supply 1,453 tactical logistic trucks for the Italian Army.
The new trucks will be delivered from 2025 to 2038 and are part of a modernisation of the Italian Army's logistic fleet, IDV said in a 19 December press release.
The contract, worth EUR755 million (USD787 million), is based on IDV's range of SMR6 (Standard Military Range) trucks. The trucks under the contract will be built in Iveco Group's Piacenza plant.
The vehicles include 4×4, 8×8, and 10×10 variants with configurations from troop and material transport to water tankers, fuel tankers, container carriers, and recovery and towing vehicles.
Iveco Group said that the contract “reaffirms IDV's ability to contribute advanced technologies, manufacturing capabilities, and supply chain governance”.
In April 2021 IDV opened a factory in Romania as part of a framework agreement that included the delivery of more than 2,900 high-mobility trucks. The plant was estimated to produce up to 440 vehicles per year with production support provided by IDV's Italian plants.
