Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has signed a partnership agreement with Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) to supply a new 8×8 amphibious armoured vehicle to the Kazakhstan military.

ST Engineering said in a press release on 6 December that the new vehicle, which will be based on the company's Terrex infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), will be built in Kazakhstan by KPE. However, the number of vehicles to be produced was not disclosed.

“ST Engineering will collaborate with KPE to set up in-country production capability for a new 8×8 amphibious multi-purpose armoured vehicle,” the company said. “This includes engineering and technical support for the design and production of the vehicle.”

Aibek Baryssov, chairperson of KPE's supervisory board, said KPE's capacity to build 500 military vehicles per year and its understanding of Kazakhstan's requirements will enable the company and ST Engineering to “fully meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan for amphibious 8×8 vehicles”.

He added, “Looking ahead, we have plans for new stages of collaboration on various projects.”

Speaking to Janes, an ST Engineering spokesperson said the vehicle to be built through the partnership will be based on the design of Terrex 2, which was unveiled by the company in 2015 as a proposal for a US Marine Corps (USMC) amphibious combat vehicle requirement.
