India's Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has unveiled a new variant of its 4×4 Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle (LAMV).
TASL told Janes on 25 February that the “global” LAMV variant, which was displayed for the first time at IDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi, offers STANAG 4569 Level 3 protection against kinetic and artillery threats, although the vehicle's specifications were not disclosed.
According to TASL, the LAMV is capable of operating in desert and high-altitude regions and is transportable by air. The company added that the vehicle is fitted with an unidentified “high-powered engine” and automatic transmission and has a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
The LAMV also features a health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) to enable predictive maintenance. Such systems usually feature technologies to monitor vibrations and usage of critical components.
TASL has developed two LAMV variants: reconnaissance and transport. The reconnaissance vehicle can accommodate a driver and a crew of three, while the transport version can carry 11 dismounts.
According to TASL, it owns the intellectual property rights (IPR) to the LAMV design and technology. In promoting the vehicle to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), TASL has said the vehicle is “ready for co-production” in that country.
TASL's sister company Tata Motors also unveiled a 4×4 LAMV in 2014, indicating potential design similarities with the newly unveiled vehicle.
On the unveiling of the original LAMV, Janes reported that the vehicle is a 4×4 light patrol vehicle in the eight-tonne class, which combines an integrated blast and ballistic protection system, including a protected all-composite detachable crew pod and V-shaped hull for protection up to STANAG 4569 Level 2.
