US approves possible M1A2 Abrams sale to Romania

The US State Department has approved the possible Foreign Military Sales of M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks (MBTs) and related equipment to Romania. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a press release on 9 November that Congress was informed of the possible sale earlier the same day.

According to the DSCA, Romania has requested 54 M1A2 SEPv3 (System Enhanced Package) Abrams MBTs; 54 M1A1 structures; four M88A2 Hercules combat recovery vehicles; four M1110 Joint Assault Bridges; four M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicles; four Heavy Assault Scissor Bridges; 54 M240C 7.62 mm machine guns; 10 AGT1500 gas turbine engines; 5,940 M1147 High Explosive, Multipurpose, Tracer (HEMP-T) 120 mm rounds; and 4,230 M1002 Target Practice Multipurpose-Tracer (TPMP-T) 120 mm rounds.
