Brazilian Navy helicopter carrier NAM Atlantico (A140) entered the Almirante Régis dry dock on 23 September for the ship's first maintenance docking since its commissioning in June 2018, the navy told Janes .
The 203.4 m-long multi-purpose carrier (formerly HMS Ocean ) is undergoing a routine docking maintenance period (Período de Docagem de Rotina: PDR) at state-owned shipyard Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ) Almirante Régis dry dock, navy officials said.
Maintenance is scheduled to be completed in February 2025, the officials said.
The work includes preventive maintenance efforts that require dry-docking, such as work on valves, shaft lines, and rudders, the navy told Janes .
A source aboard the ship told Janes the docking of Brazil's largest warship is principally aimed at maintaining the propulsion and shaft lines.
The vessel, subordinated to Surface Force Command, is based at the Snake Island naval base, at Rio de Janeiro city's Snake Island naval complex, where AMRJ is located.
The first major refit period for Atlantico in Brazil is scheduled later this year at the AMRJ, the navy told Janes .
