Privately owned Indonesian shipbuilder PT Daya Radar Utama (PT DRU) has launched the first of two 90 m offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) on order for the country's navy.
The vessel with pennant number 391 took to the water on 18 September at PT DRU's shipyard in Lampung, South Sumatra. It will be known as KRI Raja Haji Fisabilillah once commissioned.
In 2020 PT DRU received two separate contracts from the Indonesian Navy and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (MoD) respectively to build two 90 m OPVs.
A steel-cutting ceremony for both ships was held in August 2021 at Lampung.
The OPVs will displace about 1,800 tonnes at standard loads and 2,100 tonnes at full loads.
The vessels will have a top speed of 28 kt, an economical speed of 15 kt, and a cruising speed of 20 kt. At its economical cruising speed, the OPV will have a maximum range of 9,600 n miles with an endurance of 20 days. It can operate at up to Sea State 5 and survive up to Sea State 6.
Neither the Indonesian MoD nor PT DRU have confirmed details of the OPV's weapon systems.
However, computer-generated images of the vessels that have been released by the MoD and PT DRU so far indicate that the vessels will be armed with what appears to be the Leonardo 76/62 Super Rapid (SR) 76 mm naval gun as its primary weapon.
