The Peruvian Navy's second landing platform dock (LPD) multi-purpose ship BAP Paita (AMP-157) was launched from the Servicios Industriales de la Marina (SIMA) in Callao on 9 December, the navy said.
With a length of 122 m and a displacement of 11,394 tonnes, BAP Paita features a 1,023 m² flight deck and a 198 m² hangar to accommodate all helicopter models operated by Peru's armed forces.
The 435 m² well-deck can accommodate two Landing Craft Utility (LCU)-type landing craft. The 410 m² truck deck provides space to embark either 24 amphibious vehicles, 18 tanks, or 13 heavy trucks. There is also 410 m² available on the upper deck for the storage of either vehicles, stores, or mission-specific modules, such as containerised hospital and surgical units. Loading is facilitated through two ramps, one on either side. Vehicles weighing up to 40 tonnes and stores can be driven aboard and stored.
The ship has a crew of 144 and accommodations for an additional 450 personnel. The ship can also embark a 100-strong command staff, while its hospital facilities make it possible to use the vessel as a Primary Casualty Receiving Ship (PCRS).
BAP Paita's twin-diesel configuration provides a maximum speed of 16.5 kt and a range of 14,000 n mile at 13.5 kt.
