French shipbuilder Naval Group has delivered the second Bani Yas (Gowind 2500)-class corvette to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The new vessel, named Al Emarat (P 111), was formally handed over during a ceremony held at Naval Group's shipyard in Lorient, France, on 27 June, Naval Group confirmed.
The ceremony was attended by an official delegation of the UAE Navy, led by the service's Deputy Commander, Brigadier Abdulla Al Mehairbi.
Laid down in 2021 and launched on 13 May 2022, Al Emarat is the second of two Gowind corvettes ordered from Naval Group under a contract awarded by the UAE in 2019.
Following its delivery, Al Emarat's crew will remain in France to continue operational ship training, which is being provided by Naval Group as part of the contract. The ship will begin its transit to the UAE under the Emirati flag in July and is expected to arrive in Abu Dhabi in August, Naval Group said.
First-of-class Bani Yas (P 110) was laid down in 2020, launched in December 2021, and commissioned into service in November 2023.
The Gowind 2500 corvette has an overall length of 102 m, a beam of 16 m, a full-load displacement of around 2,800 tonnes, and a maximum speed of 25.5 kt. It can accommodate 95 personnel and has an endurance of 21 days. The vessels can carry a 10 tonne helicopter, an unmanned aerial vehicle, and two 2.7 m rigid-hull inflatable boats.
