Raytheon is set to conduct more testing on its SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) installed on the guided-missile destroyer USS Jack Lucas (DDG 125), according to Mike Mills, Raytheon senior director of naval radars.
βWe've successfully completed two underways on Jack Lucas ,β Mills noted to Janes during a 27 March interview in advance of the Navy League Sea-Air-Space 2023 Global Maritime Exposition in National Harbor, Maryland, which started on 3 April.
βThe navy's also ready to do [a] third underway in April,β Mills said.
Raytheon is getting ready to conduct more testing between the radar and combat management system this month, he told Janes .
βIt's getting close to moving out of [the] shipbuilder's hands into navy hands so they can start their full test programme after the July delivery,β he said.
Lucas is the first of the navy's Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, outfitted with the updated and advanced radar suites and combat systems.
The Flight III ships are set to be the mainstay of the US Navy's future surface combatant fleet. The navy's fiscal year (FY) 2024 proposal includes about USD4.8 billion for two DDG 51 Flight III Arleigh Burke destroyers, compared with USD8.2 billion for three ships in FY 2023.
