The US military is set to build a new consolidated squadron operations facility at Qatar’s Al-Udeid Air Base, a solicitation released via the US government’s Federal Business Opportunities website on 29 May revealed.

“This administrative facility will house six rotational flying squadrons and has an operational need for adequate space in planning, briefing, and supporting operational personnel,” it said.
The solicitation confirmed the building would be used by the USAF and included architectural drawings that showed it will be constructed at a currently unoccupied site near the apron used by the USAF aircraft deployed at Al-Udeid, which typically include bombers, tankers, and transports. The contract is expected to be awarded by 15 September and completed in 450 calendar days.
The Department of Defense (DoD) said the new facility is not part of the Al-Udeid upgrade plan announced in 2018. “[This was] planned prior to the Qatari offer for expansion and is unrelated to the expansion discussions,” a DoD spokesperson told Jane’s on 7 June. “We continue to work with the Qatar Ministry of Defence on the precise details of facilities to upgrade, replace, or improve.”
