The Norwegian Armed Forces (NAF) has awarded Swedish company 4C Strategies a contract extension worth NOK17.7 million (USD1.67 million) to supply its Exonaut training management software, the company announced on 20 March.
The NAF has been using Exonaut since 2017. The contract extension expands the current use of Exonaut from ‘scheduling and programming' to now include ‘planning, execution, and evaluation' of training events, to ensure efficient training progression management across the Norwegian Army with a focus on lower echelon collective training.
Lieutenant Colonel Ken-Tore Saade Eriksen, head of the Norwegian Army training and simulation section at the Norwegian Army Land Warfare Centre, said, “The Norwegian Army is excited about our expanded partnership with 4C Strategies and their Exonaut software. It will enhance our ability to plan, deliver, and validate critical training activities across the Norwegian Army.”
Amyas Godfrey, head of sales for NATO and Europe at 4C Strategies, told Janes that Exonaut was originally developed to provide a digital solution to the complex process of planning and scheduling training and exercises, managing the execution of the latter, and offering training validation and an objective assessment of readiness. As such it is widely in use by NATO and its component members as well as other militaries. NATO uses the software to create its multinational electronic Military Training and Exercise Programme (eMTEP).
“Exonaut is software that is not well known outside its immediate user community, but it may be the most significant piece of software that no one has heard of because it lies at the heart of allied military training,” Godfrey said.
