Austria signed for EUR73 million SitaWare BMS supply

Austria's armed forces announced a major digitalisation with a EUR73 million (USD77 million) contract with Danish defence software company Systematic for its SitaWare suite for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR).

With Austria as a new Systematic customer, all countries in the Germany (D), Austria (A), and Switzerland (CH) (DACH) region will be using the SitaWare battle management system (BMS), fostering joint defence efforts and bolstering European and NATO security, Systematic said in a press release on 19 November.

After winning the tender process Systematic will deliver the BMS SitaWare, which is used for planning, co-ordination, and communication at all tactical levels while enabling information sharing between defence forces and allies.

“The current security situation in Europe – and particularly the situation in Ukraine – demonstrates that European armed forces must work together. By introducing a proven digital system already in use in many European countries, we can also work seamlessly with other armies as a neutral partner,” said Austria's Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner of the procurement.

Systematic said it would open a new office in Vienna to support the implementation of SitaWare in the Austrian Armed Forces.
