Embraer is targeting Morocco as the latest export customer for its KC/C-390 Millennium aircraft, as the North African country looks to recapitalise its tanker-transport capabilities.
Timed to coincide with the Marrakech Airshow taking place at the Marrakech Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF) Base, Embraer said on 30 October that it is promoting the KC/C-390 as part of a wider memorandum of understanding (MOU) geared at strengthening aviation co-operation and investment between the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Kingdom of Morocco.
“Morocco is set to be a major partner for Embraer Defense and Security, and we are committed to collaborating closely with the Royal Moroccan Air Force to position the C-390 as the leading choice for their future tactical airlift capabilities,” Bosco da Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, said of the MOU as it relates to the KC/C-390. “Our support would include comprehensive training, maintenance, and logistics for their fleet. With a growing number of countries choosing the C-390 for its outstanding performance and high availability, now is the ideal time for the Royal Moroccan Air Force to consider joining this strong community.”
As well as its launch customer Brazil, the KC/C-390 has been acquired by Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal, and South Korea, while Embraer is also eyeing opportunities in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, as well as with the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) of the NATO Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) based in Hungary. Letters of intent have been signed by Argentina, Chile, and Colombia also.
