Poland has signed for 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, making it the largest customer of the type outside of the United States.

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence (MND) Paweł Bejda signed the USD10 billion contract on 13 August, saying the first of the newbuild helicopters will be with the Polish army in 2028. Prior to this, the US Army is leasing eight helicopters to Poland to help stand up the capability.

“The transformation of the Polish army continues. Today we signed a contract for the purchase of 96 AH-64E Apache helicopters along with a logistics package. This is significant support for aviation and another step in the modernisation of our armed forces,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Apache helicopters are an investment in our security, [and] a guarantee of deterrence. For pilots, they are an incredible reconnaissance and attack tool. Offset, purchase, leasing, pilot training, technologies, [and] armament – all of this was negotiated together. Today is a historic day for [Polish] helicopter aviation. The most important thing is that Poles will be safe,” Bejda said from his X account.
