The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded Draken Europe GBP173 million (USD215 million) for air training services.

Announced by the MoD on 29 January, the training is to be conducted out of Draken Europe's facilities at Teesside International Airport in Northern England and Bournemouth Airport in Southern England.

“The new contract will deliver armed forces training for responding to a range of threats – including air-to-air combat, electronic warfare, and missile attacks,” the MoD said, adding that it will cover aerial combat, missile attacks, and aircraft attacks on ships.

“Through live exercises with UK personnel over the North Sea, Draken private pilots will replicate the tactics and techniques of a range of adversaries,” the MoD said, adding, “Using the latest electronic warfare technology, Draken will also train Royal Naval personnel to protect Carrier Strike Group assets from air and missile attacks and train [British] Army personnel to quickly receive reconnaissance and intelligence information on enemy forces from the air.”

To deliver this training, Draken Europe will use 14 Dassault Falcon 20 executive jets that are fitted with electronic warfare equipment, which can also be used to simulate cruise missiles, one Diamond DA42 light aircraft, and eight Aero Vodochody L-159E Honey Badger light fighter jets based at Teesside and Bournemouth.
