DroneShield eyes SF market with IRK detect-and-defeat solution

DroneShield's new Immediate Response Kit (IRK) offers military operators a combined unmanned aircraft system (UAS) detect-and-defeat capability, with the new solution developed based on feedback from special forces and other users.

The IRK brings together the company's RfPatrol portable detection device and its DroneGun MKIII defeat device into a single rugged carry case. The combined package was developed based on feedback from operators, particularly in the United States but also in Australia and other countries, who noted that “it was less efficient to have two separate cases”, said Oleg Vornik, DroneShield CEO. He added that the new solution means that operators can “grab it when they need to rush somewhere, which is important if you're in a quick response situation”.

DroneGun MKIII is a compact, pistol-shaped design, which disrupts targeted unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) or unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) by using RF disruption frequency modes that sever the connection between the platform and its controller. The target is unable to continue flying, so lands or returns to its point of origin. RfPatrol is a wearable detection device, designed to detect a variety of UAV, UGV, USVs, and remote controllers.

While there could be a range of military operators of the IRK, Vornik said it is particularly targeted at “SF, tip of the spear kind of users”, who often need to respond to UASs being used in reconnaissance or payload delivery.
