The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has ordered two more H225 helicopters to bolster the service’s search-and-rescue, disaster relief, and law enforcement capabilities.
The H225 is an 11-tonne category, twin-engine aircraft from Airbus’ Super Puma family. It can accommodate up to 20 passengers and has a lift capacity of up to 5.5 tonnes. The aircraft has a top speed of 175 kt and a maximum range of 452 n miles on an endurance of 4.5 hours.
“The H225 is well regarded as a reference in search-and-rescue operations and security enforcement, and we are certainly happy to see these helicopters effectively deployed in Japan through the years,” said Guillaume Leprince, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan, in a media statement to announce the order.
“We have delivered three new H225 to JCG in the recent months, within schedule, and are committed to fully supporting its existing fleet, as well as its upcoming deliveries, ensuring high availability for its operations,” he added in the statement dated 6 April.
As with past deliveries, Airbus has not given further details of mission systems that will go onboard the helicopters, adding only that the aircraft have been equipped with “state-of-the-art electronic instruments”.
Once delivered, the JCG will operate a fleet of 15 Super Puma helicopters, comprised of two AS332s and 13 H225s.
