Ethiopia has received a significant consignment of MCAV-20 4×4 armoured vehicles made in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by Calidus, videos posted on social media channels show.

Posted on or sometime before 22 July, the videos showed at least 28 MCAV-20s being transported by train on flatcars at unidentified locations said to be in Ethiopia.

One video showed the train crossing a bridge that Janes identified as one on the Djibouti-Addis Ababa railway line in Adama. A second video was filmed at a location that could be identified as a level crossing 50.8 km to the northwest as the train approached the outskirts of Addis Ababa.

These are the first UAE-made armoured vehicles that are known to have been delivered to Ethiopia. However, soldiers from the Ethiopian Republican Guard have been photographed carrying CAR 817 DMR and CSR rifles made by the UAE's Caracal firearms manufacturer, as well as what are almost certainly CAR 816 assault rifles made by the same company.
