Indonesian aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi-based AMMROC to collaborate on production and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activity.
A PTDI official told Jane’s that the agreement – signed at the LIMA 2019 exhibition in Langkawi – is aimed at supporting the Indonesian company’s CN235 transport aircraft and associated variants in the Middle East. PTDI produces the CN235 under a long-standing licensing agreement with Airbus.
“This [agreement] enables AMMROC to act as our hub in the Middle East to look for additional contracts and to support CN235 aircraft already operating in the region,” said a PTDI official.

According to a joint statement by the companies, the agreement will facilitate potential co-production, MRO, and aircraft upgrade programmes, with PTDI supporting regional work on the CN-235 through technology transfers.
Officials indicated that the scope of engagement will depend on additional contracts in the region. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has operated seven CN235 aircraft since the early 1990s, although these aircraft will be replaced by five C295s ordered by the country in 2017. Other regional CN235 customers include Saudi Arabia and Yemen. PTDI is also pursuing opportunities in Oman and Qatar.
AMMROC is a joint venture between Emirates Defence Industries Company (EDIC), Lockheed Martin, and Sikorsky Aerospace Services, and is a major MRO supplier to the UAE Air Force and other branches of the country’s military.
