Saab has been awarded two contracts for its laser-based tactical engagement simulation systems (TESS), one by the US Marine Corps (USMC) and one by the Netherlands armed forces.
The USMC award, announced in a 17 June Saab press release, is an undefinitized single award task order contract (SATOC) for the Corps' Force on Force Training Systems – Next (FoFTS-Next) with a potential total value of USD127.9 million. The FoFTS-Next SATOC will include the USMC Training Instrumentation Systems (MCTIS) equipment, logistics, and training exercise support, according to the release.
Under the Netherlands LTESP contract, Saab will integrate mortars as live players within the overall tactical engagement simulation system, as well as provide forward observers with a blended live/virtual capability. (Saab)
It will replace the USMC's Instrumentation and Tactical Engagement Simulation System (ITESS) equipment, which has two elements. ITESS-I was supplied by Saab and ITESS-II by Cubic.
Increment 1 of the contract, worth USD53.5 million, consists of instrumentation systems for individuals, vehicles, buildings, and weapons, as well as the command-and-control and network systems required to transport, process, and display data from the instrumentation. The contract is expected to be completed by June 2024.
The exact equipment and quantities will be negotiated through the definitization process, Saab officials said in a written response.
The company announced on 21 June that it had been awarded a contract for live training systems for the Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) and the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (RNLMC).
The lifetime extension and support programme (LTESP) contract is for new equipment and functionality worth SEK727 million (USD84.87 million) together with a 10-year support contract with an annual value of SEK66.9 million (USD7.8 million). The contract has an option for five years additional support.
