Brazil lays keel for second Tamandaré-class frigate

The PFCT is locally building four 107 m long and 3,380 tonne frigates for the Brazilian Navy. (EMGEPRON)

The Brazilian Navy's Tamandaré-class Frigate Program (PFCT) on 6 June laid the keel at the local shipbuilder thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul (tkEBS) for the programme's second ship, F Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201).

Construction of the combat ship began on 1 November 2023 and is running simultaneously with construction of the first-of-class frigate F Tamandaré (F200) in Itajaí, State of Santa Catarina.

The two ships are scheduled to be commissioned in 2025 and 2027, respectively, Director of the Navy Directorate of Programs Management Rear Admiral Carlos Roberto Rocha e Silva Junior told Janes .

Launch of the F Tamandaré frigate is scheduled for 9 August, and commissioning in December 2025, Rear Adm Carlos Roberto told Janes .

The remaining units, F Cunha Moreira (F202) and F Mariz e Barros (F203) , are scheduled to be commissioned in 2028 and 2029, respectively.
