The Serbian Army unveiled the M-84 AS1 main battle tank (MBT) at its Technical Overhaul Institute ‘Čačak’ on 8 June. The tank was developed under the first part of a programme to modernise the army’s M-84/M-84A MBT, a modified Yugoslav-produced variant of the Soviet T-72.

Crew situational awareness has been improved and the MBT is equipped with a 360˚ thermal imaging observation system and remote controlled weapons station with a 12.7 mm machine gun and day/night electro-optical sighting system with a laser rangefinder.
