The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded Elbit Systems UK (ESUK) a GBP102 million (USD139 million) contract for Dismounted Joint Fires Integrators (D-JFIs) for the British armed forces, the ministry and company announced on 21 January.

The D-JFIs, which will be delivered over a five-year period, will be deployed by British joint terminal attack controllers and fire-support teams, providing them with a dismounted sensor and networked battle management system (BMS) that will be used to acquire targets and then generate and communicate target information to the relevant units for engagement, ESUK said in a press release.
Colonel Kieran Sheldon, assistant head of the British Army Joint Effects Delivery team, said, “D-JFI will enable rapid and highly accurate target engagements. In addition to being fielded across the army to our fire-support teams and joint terminal attack controllers, D-JFI will also deliver capability to 3 Commando Brigade, the RAF Regiment, and our special forces. This is a key system that will contribute directly to modernising our forces to face future threats.”
The system will enable the effective use of both precision and non-precision munitions and is empowered by artificial intelligence, according to ESUK, which told Janes
