Narda-MITEQ makes first acquisition

US defence electronics supplier Narda-MITEQ has completed its first acquisition as a stand-alone company.

The New York-based business announced on 13 January that it has purchased Intelligent RF Solutions (iRF), expanding its portfolio of microwave and radio-frequency systems used in electronic warfare (EW) and signals intelligence (SIGINT). Narda-MITEQ sees EW and SIGINT as a key growth area.

“Our partnership with iRF will further strengthen and broaden both organisations' market presence and penetration, customer relationships, and technology and product development capabilities,” Narda-MITEQ CEO Bob Tavares said.

Narda-MITEQ acquired iRF from an owner-founder for an undisclosed sum and intends to retain iRF's current management team. Located in Maryland, iRF has about 50 employees, boosting Narda-MITEQ's workforce to about 450 people. The iRF product line includes frequency converters and microwave receivers and tuners.

US defence contractor L3Harris Technologies sold Narda-MITEQ to US private equity firm J F Lehman & Company (JFLCO) in December 2021 as part of a portfolio reshaping effort. JFLCO said at the time that it would help its new asset pursue both acquisitive and organic growth.
