India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) unveiled a model of its proposed multilayered, multidomain protection system at Aero India 2025 in Bangalore.

The system, named Raksha Kavach, utilises several pre-existing technologies. A DRDO official told Janes that the system is at its conceptual stage and will require further development before implementation.

Commenting on its capabilities, the DRDO official said Raksha Kavach could become “India's Iron Dome”, referring to Israeli manufacturer Rafael Advanced Defense Systems' counter-rocket, artillery, and mortar (C-RAM) and very-short-range air-defence system (VSHORADS).

According to the official, Raksha Kavach consists of several systems developed by DRDO and local industry. The official added that India possesses the capability to produce all elements of the Raksha Kavach system.

Key components of Raksha Kavach include the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), which has a strike range of 25–30 km; the Netra airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) suite, an S-band (NATO E-/F-band) (2–4 GHz) 3D AEW&C mission suite; and Bharat Forge Limited's (BFL's) 155 mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), which has a range of 45 km.

Also incorporated in Raksha Kavach are Adani Defence and Aerospace Drone Detect, Deter, and Destroy (D4) system; the Arudhra ground-based multimode 3D air surveillance radar; the Shyena electrically propelled self-homing lightweight torpedo; the Dharashakti ground-based electronic warfare system (EWS); VSHORADS, which is intended to neutralise low-altitude aerial threats at short ranges; and the Ugram 7.62Ă—51 mm assault rifle, which has a maximum range of 500 m.
