India's state-owned Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Adani Defence and Aerospace unveiled a jointly developed mobile counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) at the Aero India 2025 show held in Bangalore from 10 to 14 February.

Janes understands that India's Border Security Force (BSF) has procured one mobile C-UAS from Adani. The company delivered the C-UAS to the BSF in November 2024and expects more orders from the BSF in 2025. Adani is planning trials with Indian Army's Northern Command in the coming weeks.

Speaking to Janes at the show, CEO of Adani Defence and Aerospace Ashish Rajvanshisaid the C-UAS has soft- and hard-kill capabilities.

“The C-UAS is installed onto a 4×4 vehicle. Based on input from sensors, you can deploy the C-UAS near hostile UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] to bring them down,” Rajvanshi said.

Rajvanshi added that the C-UAS has a 3D active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar with a range of 20 km to detect UAVs. UAV targets can either be jammed using a radio frequency (RF) jammer with a range of 10 km or eliminated using a laser-based directed energy weapon (DEW).

The laser DEW has been provided by DRDO. It has a range of 800 m to 1 km. DRDO in partnership with Adani plans to increase the range of this DEW, he said.

In addition to the laser-based DEW, the C-UAS is equipped with a 7.62 mm gun to engage with UAVs if required. The C-UAS also has electro-optical sensors and signals intelligence (SIGINT) equipment to support its operations, Rajvanshi said.

Two soldiers are required to operate the C-UAS, he added.
