Slovenia and Finland have signed a letter of intent (LoI) on 13 February on support for the procurement of Patria 8×8 Armoured Modular Vehicles (AMVs), the Finnish company and Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced in separate press releases later the same day. The Slovenian government announced in a press release on 30 January that it had approved the procurement of 106 8×8 AMVs through to the end of the decade.
The LoI was signed by Slovenian Minister of Defence Borut Sajovic and his Finnish counterpart, Antti Häkkänen, on the fringes of a NATO defence ministers meeting in Brussels on 13 February.
A Finnish MoD spokesperson told Janes on 19 February that their country's support to Slovenia would be at the government-to-government level according to Slovenia's wishes and requests, noting that the Finnish Defence Forces already operate the Patria 8×8 AMV. They added that the Finnish government would provide support services to Slovenia for the procurement of 8×8 AMVs, agreed by both countries, during the procurement process and the contract phase.
The first phase of Slovenia's AMV 8×8 procurement will involve the purchase of 53 of the vehicles to equip the Slovenian Armed Forces' medium combat reconnaissance battalion battlegroup (SrBIB), with implementation in 2025–28, and another 53 vehicles in 2027–30.
