India's state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) will supply electro-optic (EO) fire-control systems (FCSs) to the Indian Navy to boost surveillance and targeting.

BEL will supply 28 EON-51 EO FCSs to the Indian Navy, Kaipa Venkata Suresh Kumar, director of Marketing at BEL, told Janes at Aero India 2025 held in Bangalore from 10 to 14 February.

Kumar said the deliveries are expected to be completed by 2027.

On 8 February the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that the EON-51 EO FCSs will be installed on 11 next-generation offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) and three cadet training ships of the Indian Navy. The systems are being procured under a contract worth INR6.42 billion (USD73 million).

The EON-51 features “multiple sensors”, Kumar said. “It can support search and track of air and surface targets, and provide co-ordinates of the target to the guns for accurate aim and elimination,” he added.

According to BEL, the EON-51 is a dual-axis gyrostabilised EO system that can control medium-range and short-range gun mounts. It can conduct surveillance and tracking at day and night using its sensors, which include a TV camera, a thermal imager, and a laser rangefinder.
