Airbus Helicopters has delivered to France its final baseline version of the NHIndustries (NHI) NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH), the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced on 4 February.
The milestone saw the last of 63 medium-lift helicopters delivered to the French Army at the site of the Marignane production facility of the chief NHI stakeholder, Airbus Helicopters. A further 18 NH90 TTH helicopters adapted for the special operations forces (SOF) mission are to be delivered from 2026 to 2029, while the French Navy operates 27 of the NH90 NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) maritime-roled version of the helicopter.
The NH90 TTH is designed for tactical transport, air-mobile operations, and search and rescue; it can carry up to 20 fully armed troops or 2.5 tonnes of equipment. Specialist applications also include tactical support, special electronic warfare, an airborne command post, VIP transport, and training.
In French Army Light Aviation (ALAT) service, the NH90 TTH is replacing the Airbus Helicopters H215 Puma while operating alongside Airbus Helicopters H215M Cougar and H225M Caracal helicopters in the medium-lift support role.
