AM General revealed its next general Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) A2 and trailer, as well as a new MIMIC-V purpose-built truck, on 14 October at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) annual conference in Washington, DC.

“We are preparing for production of the JLTV A2,” said Jim Cannon, AM General president and CEO, in a 14 October statement.

In 2023 AM General and programme incumbent Oshkosh Defense competed for a five-year contract (with options for another five years) for up to 20,000 vehicles and up to 10,000 JLTV-Trailers (JLTV-Ts) for joint and Foreign Military Sales (FMS). AM General was selected, and its initial production contract is worth USD290 million, according to the Pentagon.

In 2015 the army had selected Oshkosh Defense for the initial JLTV design and production run, and ordered the follow-on A1 and A2 technical data packages (TDPs) for the vehicle, enabling the service to ‘re-compete' the programme for later production runs.

JLTV A2 is a general-purpose four-passenger vehicle with several changes from the first generation, including “an upgraded powertrain, improvements in noise reduction, and improved corrosion protection”, AM General noted.
