Saab announced in a press release on 11 February that it has received an order from BAE Systems Hägglunds worth approximately SEK700 million (USD63 million) for the Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS) sighting and fire-control system (FCS) for Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) infantry fighting vehicles.

Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab's surveillance business area, said, “UTAAS was specifically developed for the Combat Vehicle 90”, with his company noting that the modular structure, integrated sight, and FCS can be used against both ground and aerial targets. To meet “high demand by different armed forces worldwide [for the CV90], we have strengthened our production capacity”, Bergholm added.

UTAAS has a thermal imager, laser rangefinder, and fire-control computer, and is supplemented by a turret angle sensor and interface to the gunlaying system to provide an independent line of sight, according to Janes C4ISR & Mission Systems: Land. The system is specifically designed to shorten reaction times and achieve a high hit probability against moving targets when firing from a moving vehicle. When combined with an advanced FCS, it can target moving ground targets and helicopters.
